Buying a New Refrigerator? Here’s What You Need to Know

(pop music) – Hi I’m Steve Sheinkopf
CEO of Yale Appliance and Lighting in Boston (mumbling). Today we’re talking about refrigeration. There are tons of new
refrigerators available now. You probably know of a
top mount refrigerator or side-by-side, or even
the popular French door with the side-by-side top
and the freezer below. But now there’s a French
door with two doors, a four door, and even a five
door French door refrigerator. You can buy any number of
refrigerators to look commercial with the compressors at the top. Or you can buy them
integrated so they blend in seamlessly with your cabinets. There are refrigerators
specifically designed for wine. Or under counter. Or even under counter just for wine. Confused? Don’t be. Here are a few tips to choosing the right refrigerator for your home. First, refrigerators are
designed to follow cabinet sizes. So they’re mostly 30,
33, and 36 inch width. There are larger specialty high-end sizes at 42 and 48 inch width. Under cabinet and smaller
apartment units fit 24, 28 inch cabinets. Your next decision should be
regular, or cabinet depth. A regular depth refrigerator
will have more cubic footage and would protrude out of your
cabinets into your kitchen at eight to 10 inches. A counter depth will not
stick out in your kitchen which will look a lot better. However, you do sacrifice
some cubic footage with the shallower depth inside. After that, you pick the configuration. It could be top or bottom mount. Side-by-side, a French door, built-in or integrated refrigerator. One last tip, you want
to measure your hallways because refrigerators
are bigger than ever. We provide free delivery site checks in our delivery area. Thank you for considering Yale. If you need more information,
download our refrigerator buying guide at the end of this video. (pop music)
